Founded in 1785, The Episcopal Academy is an independent college preparatory school for more than 1,100 boys and girls from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade in four units: Lower School at Devon and Lower, Middle, and Upper School in Merion, PA. The school was founded by the Right Reverend William White, first Episcopal Bishop of Pennsylvania. Established in 1885 by the Haverford Monthly Meeting, Friends School of Haverford is a coeducational Quaker elementary school. The current enrollment is 200 children in preschool through sixth grade. The Barnes Foundation was established in 1922 by Dr. Albert C. Barnes, to "promote the advancement of education and the appreciation of the fine arts." Albert Barnes was born in a working class Philadelphia neighborhood in 1872 and attended Central High School. The Masters of Foxhounds Association of America is the governing body of organized fox, coyote and drag hunting in the United States of America and Canada. Among its activities are the promotion of the sport, the publication of a Foxhound Stud Book, the recognition of organized Hunts which have met its standards, the recordation of countries and boundaries for organized hunting establishments and the Registration of Hunts as a preliminary step toward Recognition.
Radnor Hunt is today one of the oldest recognized hunts in the United States. The original property on Bryn Mawr Road (now Darby-Paoli and Roberts Roads) was purchased in 1883. Although foxhunting has been the main activity throughout the years, the club has been the focal point for numerous other activities related to horses and hounds. Charlestown Township - This site provides access to various types of current (but relatively unchanging) information about the township. The township office is located on second floor of the Devault Post Office Building on Whitehorse Road. The office hours are 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday - Friday.
Haverford Township - The township is primarily residential with retail and service businesses and some light industry. The largest industry is the Philadelphia Chewing Gum Corporation. There are two shopping centers, Manoa with 28 businesses and Pilgrim Gardens with about 12. The tallest buildings in the township are two apartment buildings of five stories. There are 237.5 acres of park, playground and recreation land, and 32.6 acres of Cobb's Creek Park owned by the City of Philadelphia. There are two private Swim Clubs. There is quite a mix of residential properties with single homes, duplex and some row homes. There are many pleasant tree-lined streets. Haverford Township is a great place to live.
